Review of 28 Days Later (2002) by Robert H — 24 Apr 2016
One of the most original, frenetic, thrilling, and beautiful outbreak films to ever have been released. Danny Boyle's take on the extremely outdated zombie sub-genre is the biggest breath of fresh air to the horror genre as a whole.
With an original and terrifying concept of sprinting zombies, due to an international outbreak, the film seems like it has a lot to live up to by defying the standards of a zombie movie. It lives up to every single one of them.
The cinematography is just as chaotic as the world it depicts, the symbolism is genius, and a surprisingly believable story will leave you gripping your seat a little tighter as the movie unfolds. With great performances from a now well formed cast with names like Cillian Murphy, Naomi Harris, Brendan Gleeson, and Christopher Eccleston, this films plot, while mostly gory and frantic and downright heartbreaking at times, is teeming with a kind of beauty that reminds us that being alive isn't as good as it gets.
