Review of 21 & Over (2013) by Dan H — 24 Jul 2013
Miles Teller, Skylar Austin and Justin Chon anchor this film and are the beating heart at the center of all the chaos and debauchery. They put on pretty good performances and their chemistry together is just superb.
The film goes to some pretty silly, crazy heights but it's because of them that we go along with it all. The film is actually pretty funny at points, and it is filled with some truly awesome moments.
..however, there are many forced parts and most of the film is fairly predictable, standard stuff. The story is good and engaging, and I like how we continually unravel more and more of the mystery of who Jeff Chang really is (Jeff Chang easily wins best drunk ever).
21 and Over acts as a mix of The Hangover and Project X, but sadly it's not as good as either of these 2 films (as far as project X goes: admittedly the characters are more likeable in 21 and Over and their chemistry is better but it fails to reach the insane heights of Project X).
Despite some forced moments and easily predicted outcomes 21 and Over is still a fairly clever film at some points and it's got a good story, great characters, great chemistry, some funny moments and quite a few awesome moments.
While it's not a great film it certainly is very good and very entertaining.
