Review of 2046 (2004) by Joseph R — 12 Mar 2008
This is an incredibly romantic film and at the same time, utterly heartbreaking. It had me engaged throughout this film, spying in on the characters loves in a few years of his life. Of course, it's Wong Kar Wai so it's experimental, but beautiful to look at.
..and did I say I was engaged?... Pretty outstanding I think, it's the most grandest of scales I've ever seen in any of his films and his use of motifs really gets you. The film kind of works as a circle or loop or something relying on time and numbers repeating through-out.
On a shallow level, Faye Wong is back to look at...can't complain. I have to say, however that this film does work better if you've seen In the Mood for Love before it, as it's a companion piece and plays off some its elements.
