Review of 2046 (2004) by Michael A Elkana F — 02 Mar 2010
Another eye feast, a really unique experience because the intricate plot. Love the whole idea of story within story, with lots of references to his 2 previous films (Days of Being Wild, which i've yet to see, and the gorgeously made In the Mood for Love).
And this is probably the second most beautiful film of the decade, just behind The New World by a small margin imo. But the problem is, I didn't connect with the story wholeheartedly, maybe because this is my first time watching it.
The whole characters felt quite 'distant' with me, unlike In the Mood for Love. The score was also not too memorable compared to the Yumeji's Theme and the usage of Nat King Cole's Quizás Quizás Quizás in In the Mood for Love.
But again, this could change after second viewing.....
