Review of 2036 Origin Unknown (2018) by Andreea D — 17 Jun 2018
An interesting story for those who want to be left with more questions than answers. I will try not to give spoilers... for those reading this before watching. The idea of the movie is great, the acting is great, the sgi is great, everything is great, until the end.
The end was meant to leave you wondering, pondering, maybe even with a headache, I'm not sure. There are many plot holes and it feels like the writer of the story wants you have a feeling of wonder, something like "Wow this movie is so intelligent I can't understand it".
It is not a masterpiece, it got close to it and then completely messed it up. This movie as a whole is like if Leonardo da Vinci would've painted Mona Lisa and right at the end decided to "improve" on the painting by smearing it with a fist full of different paints or if he would've sneezed right before painting the last line.
I'm not sure, because I don't know if they messed it up on purpose thinking we wouldn't figure it out or just thought that if they don't understand it (the whole story), nobody will and that will make them (the people behind the movie) look smarter than they are.
I am rating it with 3 starts because it was amaizing for the best part, but then it went to sh*t real bad real fast. The really confusing and, honestly, stupid ending doesn't make you wonder about deep subjects or podering on the big questions in life, it only makes you wonder if the writer/s were on some drungs or not when they came up with the ending ideas.
All in all, watch it if you will. If you don't understand the ending, it's okay, you are not stupid, just the ending is. Like I said, I don't want to give spoilers.
