Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Ken H — 17 Jul 2013
Although there is some beautiful cinematic imagery, the story is PAINFULLY slow and MIND-NUMBINGLY BORING. This coupled with the lack of sound and music during long sequences makes this an tedious exercise, nay, a chore to watch it to completion for such a poor artsy/fartsy ending.
.. (I know that sound does not travel in space because of the vacuum but it is a work of fiction and it could have used sound effects and music to reduce monotony) The poets and the ancient critics who were actually alive at the time of release will love it because of the nostalgia and surrealism but I can't think of many of today's theatre audience sitting through such tedium.
