Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Clarence P — 18 Sep 2018
Simply stunning, not only in its visual appeal, but also by posing questions for the viewer to contemplate and add their own conclusions.
Grand in scale, and best viewed on the big screen, the sweep from the dawn of man to the voyage to Jupiter is conducted with a majestically touch that still enchants even now.
I remember leaving the cinema as a child with my father and asking him what the film was really about.
"Son", he said, "I have no idea, and I'll bet if when you're a father you take your own son to see this, your answer will be the same as mine".
Along with The Deerhunter, and The Shawshank Redemption, my favourite film, all of which have the grandeur and deft touches to make them truly remarkable.
