Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Noah Abraham G — 30 May 2013
A triumph of 20th century cinema, 2001: A Space Odyssey pairs a powerful classical score with groundbreaking special effects that represent a landmark for both the science-fiction genre and for film itself, preceding notable works such as Star Wars by a number of years, bearing obvious inspiration for said films.
Despite the lack of a clear narrative and a very ambiguous ending, 2001: A Space Odyssey's distinctive, unique style, featuring one of the most notable jump-cuts in cinematic history, renders it a masterpiece and made Stanley Kubrick's name as a visionary, whose work paved the way for many imitations, none of which being as artistically successful.
