Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Peter F — 27 Mar 2016
Kubrick's sci-fi epic is perhaps the most mystifying and allegorical film the genre has ever produced. Being both a treat for the mind and the eyes, 2001 was simply unlike anything to come before it, and its cautious (yet vaguely optimistic) outlook was perfect for the last days of the hippie era.
Today's audiences might find it unnecessarily long, but the running length is absolutely necessary for the film's scope. Ironically, the film is more poignant than ever now, despite the fact that the year in its title has passed.
