Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Kim B — 09 Aug 2014
This movie is stunning visually and has a great soundtrack. His color choices, beautiful camera angles, symmetry, and realistic looking spaceships for 1968 make for beautiful artistry and architecture.
Artistically this movie is brilliant and usually Stanley Kubrick doesn't disappoint. That being said I find this movie 1)incredibly overrated 2)way too vague and confusing 3)incredibly slow paced.
Apparently this movie is based off a book and reading more about the book helped me understand the meaning of the movie. However, I shouldn't have to look up what the hell a movie meant-it should just make sense period.
I understand it was open to interpretation on purpose blah blah but that much ambiguity is beyond what I care for and the fact that watching something for over 2 hours with about 5 minutes of dialogue is incredibly tedious makes me not like this movie very much.
My fav part probably encompassed Hal. Dave Don't do that Dave.
