Review of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) by Gavin S — 14 Jun 2007
This was quite possibly my favorite movie as a kid and it still holds up well today. It has a few too many cutesy Disney moments, but the core of the movie is true to the novel. The special effects hold up remarkably well, though some of them have not aged well.
And no matter how you feel about the rest of the movie, the giant squid scene is still awesome. When I was a kid and I was home sick, I'd have my parents rent this for me and I'd fast forward to the giant squid scene.
Always made me feel a little better. I also named my first Staffordshire bull terrier Esmerelda after the sea lion in this movie.
