Review of 20 Feet from Stardom (2013) by Todd P — 06 May 2014

As a career, I'm a musician, and I am currently making my way in that world, and am experiencing the good things and the bad things that come with it. Because of that, I thought that an Oscar winning documentary about people having a tough time in the music industry would be right up my street.

Unfortunately, 20 Feet From Stardom didn't have that much to offer. There were some interesting sections, and some great moments when the performers were asked about some of the big events in their lives, but what was really missing was heart.

Very rarely did this documentary have any emotion, even though it would've been easy to find, and a lot of it acted simply as a vehicle for giving us the facts about these performers. While not completely without merit, much like the subjects of the documentary, 20 Feet From Stardom comes up just short where it really counted.
