Review of 13 Tzameti (2006) by Amy T — 09 Aug 2007
A slow, methodical suspense film that relies on snippets of psychological character development to propel it forward. The director seems reluctant to offer too much of an analysis or insight into the minds of the 13 men who commit themselves to the "game" for fear, perhaps, that what we might find would be too disturbing and incomprehensible.
Shot in a low contrast black and white the film has a distancing effect that makes the events of the story bearable while at the same time distancing us from the protagonist who we do not ever really get to know.
