Unfortunately for every Samurai film. there was that small masterpiece called "seven samurai." On it's own this is a fine film with some wonderful action sequences. I especially enjoyed the POV shot with the sideways camera.
Having to compare this film to Kurosawas, this samurai brotherhood felt much more forced than in seven samurai, with less time to develop. I guess "seven samurai" needed the 3+ hours.
