Review of 13 Assassins (2010) by John A — 06 Aug 2011
An incredibly dull film, in which the entire first hour is made up of samurai sitting in little circles and talking and talking and talking, about nothing interesting. This all leads up to a nearly hour-long battle scene that is somehow almost just as dull as the first hour.
Takashi Miike is not an action director, and it shows. Also the villain is made out to be so evil, that he loses all human quality, and just becomes a goofy parody of what he is supposed to be.
