Review of Wasted on the Young (2010) by Rodney S — 06 Aug 2011
This is a handsome and stylish debut for Aussie director Ben C. Lucas. At times reminding me of schoolyard tragedy films like '2:37' or 'Elephant', or even 'Lord of the Flies' with it's deliberate lack of adult presence, this film comments on many issues with todays youth, lack of responsibilty, entitlement, and dis-enchantment, whilst not coming off too heavy-handed.
Although the narrative gets lost at times within the time jumping fabric of the story, the impressive performances totally anchor the film while the use of colour and tone within the framework of the striking cinematography and the hypnotic soundtrack evoke a haunting atmosphere.
Highly recommended.
