Review of Virunga (2014) by Margarita S — 14 Jul 2016
I rarely go into documentaries or movies emotionally charged up, but the content of this movie struck a chord given my interest in the Congo and my being a huge animal lover. I literally sobbed. The contrasting shots between the beauty of the Virunga National Park against the ravages of war and the horrors of poaching are dramatic and deeply moving.
It is a densely informative hour and forty minutes about an environment where the corruption is deeply rooted and extremely complex. Yet, even amidst such ugliness, beauty can and does thrive. If this doesn't leave you feeling inspired, I don't know what will.
