Review of Video Games: The Movie (2014) by Jon C — 19 Jul 2014
The film evokes a certain emotion to gamers that have been there with console makers like Nintendo, Sega and Sony from the early years of gaming's resurgence. I watched it and enjoyed it in terms of nostalgia and what it means to people today, but the balance seemed to be one-sided when they bring up topics like the ESRB rating while never fully explaining to the audience why the need for that became an issue in the first place.
Many important milestones in the industry, good and bad, were not fully acknowledged or at least not fully analyzed in great detail which makes me feel like opportunities were missed to introduce balanced discussion on the matters.
Despite all of this, the movie does have a certain charm that lovers of video games will appreciate as the importance of its growing culture is still yet to be properly defined to the wider public.
