Review of Umberto D. (1952) by Ugly T — 03 Jan 2009
I read below........
Sad, depressing film? that's the real situation of italy just before the second world war, when there was no social assurance. sad and depressing social conditions, i'd say.
Inexperienced actors? de sica decided to use no professional actors, taken from little towns, in order to be true. professional actors are "bourgeois" - he used to say.
It's touching and moving without being too sentimental. such a perfect balance. the best way of describing such emotions.... it's the nasterpiece of italian neorealism... that's what it is.
