Review of Tokyo Sonata (2008) by Gunnar B — 05 Nov 2008
A funny yet poignant insight into the ravages of unemployment in Japan. Kurosawa uses the experience of one family to address many social and political issues such as globalisation, unemployment, and economic equity.
More importantly though is the humanity that Kurosawa asserts through the youngest son the the featured family. The ending is understated, but extremely powerful.
