Review of The Double Life of Véronique (1991) by Steven B — 11 Aug 2007
This film captivates me because of its magic, mystery, and sensuality! I don't think I've ever seen a work of art like it before or since. Irene Jacob is simply luminous and it's largely due to her grace and beauty and Slawomir Idziak's stunning visuals that the film is such a success.
It's more like a poem than a traditional narrative (which basically means don't ask me what the film is about because I haven't a clue!) but to me that is part of it's appeal - It evokes feelings rather than portrays them.
Kieslowski was a genius!
