Review of The Double Life of Véronique (1991) by Matthew A — 28 Apr 2013
Yeaaaahh I didn't like it. :/.
SPOILERS.
I didn't like the way it was shot, with it's wide lenses skewing the frame, the handhelds felt unnecessary a lot of the time (yeah, she felt "not alone" but even after the Other Veronique was dead, we still hand...held - doesn't work). The feeling it created though, once Veronique 1 was dead, was a haunting feeling of being alone, so I guess it did that much. Even when she was with the creeper writer/puppeteer, I felt scared (for her) and alone.
At the point she received the tape in the mail I was like "GEEZE OKAY ALREADY. Mr. Director/Writer. We know what you're trying to do..blah blah blah. Blah blah." It tried to hard, or, rather, didn't try enough. And I didn't agree with where the film ended. That was not the end of the story. I liked the 1st Veronique better than the 2nd, though they were both equally beautiful. ;).
Idk man. Not my cup of tea.
