Review of Rosetta (1999) by Yangqiao L — 25 Sep 2007
Like Dogme, but without some of the more arbitrary rules; Emilie Dequenne puts in a star-turn as the title character. When we first see Rosetta she slams a door in our faces. And she doesn't really stop slamming doors for ninety-five minutes.
Happily, the movie never really asks us to like the girl. And then the subtle, clever final few moments feel like solving a koan.
