Review of Lenny (1974) by Igor Y — 14 Aug 2007
Lenny is an outstanding film from start to finish. The black and white cinematography is absolutely wonderful. Dustin Hoffman gives a brilliant performance as Lenny Bruce, and the use of Miles Davis' music through the film really works well (and I'm not a Miles Davis fan).
I really liked how they really focused on the positives in Bruce's life and personality, and didn't get into his downfall and tragic death until the very end of the film. Most biopics really tend to harp on the negative and try to make that the main point of the picture, and sometimes that works but it is nice to see someone focus on the good.
Definately a movie worth seeing. Overall 3.5/4 Stars Grade = B+.
