Review of Lenny (1974) by Anne F — 28 Feb 2011
It may be an advantage hat I knew little about Lenny Bruce, the way he challenged society about its hypocritcal use of language and his constant collision with the laws of obscenity. The film is shot in black and white and takes an almost documentary approach to his life (albeit using actors throughout), using flashbacks to illustrate what is said about him by family and friends in intervews after his death.
Dustin Hoffman was excellent, the way he portrayed the good and bad was very convincing and I found the flashbacks interspersed with interviews extremely effective.
