Review of Jade (1995) by Jeff V — 21 Aug 2009
Murder mystery reminiscent of Basic Instinct. Caruso is quite wooden as the detective in charge. Often underrated Fiorentino doesn't get enough screen time as a person of interest in the investigation, wife of the high-powered lawyer who is Caruso's best friend, and long-time friend of Caruso. Palminteri is over the top as that lawyer. There is a good car chase and there are some nice plot twists. But one comes away not caring in the least about any of the characters.
I should disclose that I do harbor resentment at Caruso for leaving NYPD Blue. But I don't think that colored my impression of him here.
