Cassavetes vision of white middle-class America is presented here as a bleak dystopia of sexual escapism, domestic boredom and frantic desperation.

As the title suggests, true meaning derives from expression as opposed to verbal exposition. Dialogue, while plentiful, is also superfluous, serving to conceal the emotions that eye contact and body language constantly betray. Certainly, one of Cassavetes better psycho-dramas, it was way ahead of anything else that was going on in America in 1968. An amazing acchievement.
