Review of Chrysalis (2007) by Dickie L — 25 Dec 2010
Its all style and a wee bit of substance in Chrysalis. With an austere, shiny blue metallic surface and a high concept centering on the possibility of memory erasing and replacing, it takes a while to wrap your head around the proceedings and the effort is only partially rewarded by a borderline silly story.
There are interesting elements at play that sadly don't get fully fleshed out. Albert Dupontel is good as always and features in a couple of strikingly choreographed martial arts fight scenes. Marie Guillard, a dead ringer for Maria Sharapova, is one of but a few female character not portrayed as an ice queen fembot.
