Review of This Island Earth (1955) by Carl K — 14 Jun 2007
'This Island Earth', defines 50's Sci Fi, with its cardboard acting and cardboards sets. However what sets this apart from the standard fare from this era is the imaginative realisation of the Planet 'Metaluna' which was created beautifully with the aid of excellent miniature photography and Matte Paintings.
This movie has everything you want from a 50's Alien movie, Mad science, Handsome leading man, Leading lady with an A line dress and Lungs that can scream a cat out of a tree. It even has the obligatory Bug Eyed Monster.
Enjoy.
