Review of The Mayor of Hell (1933) by Curtis R — 17 Jun 2008
James Cagney is at the top of his genre in this superior 30's crime drama set in a corrupt boy's reformatory. Cagney plays hood turned deputy commissioner by political favor. Though still corrupt himself Cagney's character softens when he witnesses the brutality of an evil warden inflicted on the young inmates and falls in love with the reformatory nurse.
Frankie Darro is awesome as the leader of the teen gang.
