Review of Pariah (2011) by Julio R — 26 May 2012
Pariah examines beautifully the nonexagerated tragedy to be a gay black teenager and be rejected by not only society but your family. Alike, the protagonist, is in search of love and surrounded by a volatile family, that is falling apart while the mother religious beliefs are shown throughout the house.
The father consider''s Alike his favorite daughter and casually ignores her homosexuality. This movie is within 90 minutes and a scene is not wasted with great cinematography and melodic pacing that make the climatic scenes almost unwatchable, in the sense that your heart starts to crumble.
Pariah is a mixture of love, pain, tragedy, hope and most of all is a journey to freedom. Check it out if you like Indie Films or consider the LGBT community diverse or nonstereotypical. Not for people that dislike gay people or don't like somewhat autobiographical movies.
