Review of Memories of Matsuko (2006) by Dylan M — 07 Jul 2007
A riot of color, music, jump cutting, and cuteness, this is basically a Japanese version of Amelie IF instead of going around improving the lives of others Amelie was a lonely and progressively crazy need woman who went from aspiring teacher to abused girlfriend to hooker to porn star to murderer to bag lady.
It's uplifting and depressing at once, and while the end stretches on a bit too long, it's one of the best Asian films I've seen in a long time.
