Review of Chatroom (2010) by Giovanni P — 15 Jul 2011
3 - Genuinely disturbing psychological thriller, initially let down by its theatre stage roots, but it does improve gradually as it widens its canvas, and gets darker. Director Hideo Nakata (based on a play) cleverly reinterprets the world of on-line chats on a visual level, and although hesometimes bring too much style to the picture, the young actors he directs give off some vivid performances.
Particularly Matthew Beard, who impresses as he falls prey to the on-line manipulations of a psychotic teen (Aaron Johnson) and is driven to the verge of suicide.
