Review of Black Hawk Down (2001) by Andy P — 17 Mar 2012
Probably the finest war movie ever made. Finest you ask? I have a couple that I've liked (Bridge on the River Kwai, Battle of the Buldge, The Deer Hunter), but none had the non-stop intensity that helped me truly appreciate all that those in uniform must endure.
Based on a true story, thus movie came the closest to making me feel as though I was flying the helicopters, driving the Humvees, trying to find a way thru the streets of a foreign country, engulfed in the politics of foreign policy, responsible for the person next to me, with a loaded M-16.
When I watched this the first time, I seriously wondered if I would make it to the end because war is hell. We all can relate to plans unraveling, but not like this. Watching it again, in the confusion of having to make split-second, life-and-death decisions, all of those same feelings crop up again.
My thanks to those who serve our country.
