Review of Barry Lyndon (1975) by Tatsuhito K — 22 Nov 2016
"Barry Lyndon" is one of my all-time favorite Kubrick films and perhaps his most emotionally rich film. I loved it! The cinematography is stunning, the costumes and production design are gorgeous, the set-pieces are spectacular, the characters are complex yet very engaging, and I enjoyed the story enormously.
Compared to most Kubrick films, Barry Lyndon has surprisingly good and often nuanced performances; the kind of performances that makes you care about the characters and help us understand their motive and desire.
And with the help of warm, lovely visuals, this becomes not only a feast for the eyes, but also for the heart. It is a great piece of filmmaking and character study, and arguably one of Kubrick's best films.
