Review of Zulu (1964) by Guy G — 09 Jul 2011
[100/A+] ZULU is a tremendous mini-epic war drama, exploring the events of the Battle of Rorke's Drift in 1879, when a tiny British colonial garrison faced off against a formidable Zulu force of thousands.
Beyond being a riveting and harrowing yarn, expertly directed and acted, ZULU rings true on all fronts, crafted with obvious deep respect for the historical subject matter, and especially for the honor and grit and determination of fighting men, as well as the blood spilled on both sides in an inevitable clash.
Smashing work by a staunch, dusty, terrified cast, every one of whom contributes with sincerity and understatement to this gripping tale.
