Review of Zootopia (2016) by Mike D — 23 Sep 2016
I've read many reviews here before posting this one and one thing I see time and time again is people complain about the films message. Really? People ATCUALLY get offended by a film trying to present something postive for a change! So let's outline what it could be:
Living up to your fullest potential and never giving up.
Treating others that might just be diffent than you with respect (the golden rule).
Not bullying others.
Being kind hearted and striving to be a good person.
These are basically the messages from this film! And unless you are stuck on picking apart them and are LOOKING FOR THEM you'll very likely not notice! And several other professional critics have already mentioned, Zootopia IS NOT HEAVEY HANDED with its message! And unless you're reading politics into this film it should not cause you to dislike it! These arguments are both ridiculous and childish!
What Zootopia is, is a wonderfully animated and heartfelt story of working hard to reach your goals and a unlikely friendship of two indviduals from very diffent backgrounds. It's animation is amazing, it's character development and world building are some of the best I've ever seen in my 40 years of life, it's voice casting fits perfectly and everyone went above and beyond to give a special performance to their respective character, and its story is as heartfelt, emotional, and all around fun as they come! Zootopia deserves the honor it has recived so far and it's not the top rated film of 2016 on Rotten Tomotes because it was lazily thrown together. This film will win many awards early next year and likely pick up the top honor of winning a Oscar! And you know what? It deserves it! No other film this year deserves it more than Zootopia!
