Review of Zookeeper (2011) by ♥Janet & — 14 Feb 2013
I don't understand why people hate this movie. Yes, it's sitcom fodder at best and Kevin James is just doing the same old thing he always does... but, he does it really well, and he's always likeable doing it.
Why bash a man for doing something he's clearly good at. Playing an everyman is what Kevin James does best. Okay, maybe that's not the reason why people don't like this movie -- it may also be because it's an Adam Sandler production, and he's always producing crap, right? Well, Zookeeper isn't what I'd call one of the bad ones.
In my opinion, it's as much fun as The Wedding Singer and just as effective as a showcase for its star. Rosario Dawson is always a welcome screen presence in any movie and in this film she does just fine as James' fellow co-worker and friend at the zoo.
The plot is predictable as hell, and there are talking animals in the film that say some really banal things, and I guess you could see it as a bad film if you wanted to, but that just means that you wanted to have a bad time.
This isn't high art, it's a popcorn movie, and in that respect, it works for me.
