Wow. while watching this, i've never heard the phrase "fucked by a horse" from people in the room more so than my entire life. I think the piece is definitely overtly ambitious, and fails a lot at points, certainly in its coherency, but it consistently carries a very beautiful visual style (i love its photography, and how most of the humans faces where covered in shadow) that will at least leave the view appreciating its aesthetics.

its hard to expect much of art coming from the mr. hands video, but I applaud the attempt to present a humanistic side to an extremly disturbing story. I can definitely see the errol morris influence, where it takes a very strange story and uses it to explore deeper themes.

the montage sequence of mr. hands dying is an interesting, even poetic touch, challenging the medium and how documentaries should be made. it doesn't always work, but at least I respect the audacity to do something like this.

it's no nanook or gates of heaven, but it's something that should be watched.
