Review of Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) by Ajzeg01 — 30 Nov 2019
This is the long-awaited sequel to the 2009 horror-comedy favourite, Zombieland. As for my thoughts on the original, it’s pretty good. It’s an entertaining movie with good characters and some good comedy.
The ending is stupid, but aside from that I like the movie and I will rewatch it from time to time. Shaun of the Dead is better, though. As for my thoughts on the sequel, it was okay. It wasn’t as good as the original, but it wasn’t bad.
I do think that it lost a lot of the simplicity that the original had. The original just focussed on 4 characters going on a road trip across a post-apocalyptic wasteland and seeing what they find along the way.
The sequel has WAY too many characters! I also feel like the story didn’t have as much of a goal as the first movie and there are a lot more stupid jokes that go on for way too long. It also feels kind of outdated.
A lot of these jokes just don’t seem like jokes that you should find in a movie from 2019. It kind of makes sense in the story since the world ended in 2009, but I don’t know, it was a little distracting sometimes.
Still, this is still recognizable as the same world with the same characters as the original. If that’s all you’re looking for, you’ll have a good time. However, if you’re looking for a great sequel that improves on the original, you’re not going to find that here.
