Review of Zombieland (2009) by Eyal D — 10 Oct 2014
If you're going to watch ZOMBIELAND you better be willing and ready to let go of all logic and just have fun with it. I get frightened easily and there were some genuinely scary moments (or perhaps I'm alone in thinking that) but for the most part Z is a far out comedy with a cheeky sense of the macabre, in which it seems four people have survived a zombie massacre and will continue to run for their lives for the next short and sickly sweet ninety minutes.
Well scripted despite the limited content and driven by the manic and neurotic performances of its talented foursome, ZOMBIELAND lacks complexity and soon enough, despite its funhouse nature, exhausts all possibilities of being anything more than just a movie about head and neck biting zombies.
In this respect if you're going to have fun be prepared to have fun with very little indeed.
