Review of Zombie Honeymoon (2004) by Dennis R — 12 May 2009
So yeah, I actually watched this movie, thinking that it would be a funny and satirical send-up of romantic comedies. Zombies are great comedic material, after all. "Fido" was an absolute classic, and I'll watch "Shaun of the Dead" anytime it comes on.
But "Zombie Honeymoon" doesn't really offer any new material...it actually feels a bit like "Little Shop of Horrors," as a new wife tries to conceal her husband's sudden zombie cannibalism.
But it rarely offers us any laughs, and it rarely offers real complications or real drama. It just sort of plods along to its inevitable conclusion, resting on the quirky acting of the bride and groom, and an overall tone that seems strive for "independent" and "hip," but really only ends up feeling as if it's trying too hard.
