Review of Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 (1988) by Ian B — 16 Nov 2008
Completely unrelated to Zombi 2 (which is technically the first in the series), Zombi 3 begins with a thief who steals a biochemical weapon and gets infected with it. With that, a series of unfortunate events ensue causing Fillipino zombies to crawl all over town, tearing badly dubbed Italians (posing as Americans) apart.
Yeah, once you get past the cultural and foreign confusions, you have a by-the-books, cheaply-made Italian Zombie movie. It's a complete step-down from Zombi 2 (which itself was a bit of a step down from Dawn of the Dead, its inspiration), and comes off as more laughably than chilling.
One of the BEST scenes ever (and the highlight of this film), is the infamous flying head zombie that flies out a fridge to tear an unsuspecting victim's face off. Classic. Another highlight is an infected pregnant women whose zombie child mysteriously tears through her stomach using a full-size, adult hand.
It's hard to tell what was Fulci's direction (who later left the project but is still credited) or Bruno Mattei's (finished it, but isn't credited) direction. Either way, the film is slightly dreadful and forgettable.
