Review of Zodiac (2007) by Sergio R — 14 Jun 2013
Fincher's film is gripping to a point -- and that point is where it ceases to play like drama and more like a journalist's notebook dump. Any accolades praising this as restrained filmmaking simply because it is not Se7en are misguided: plenty of scenes don't ring true, that are Fincher guiding us toward the requisite shocks and scares.
It's the story itself, rather than the way Fincher tells it, that is engrossing.
