Review of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) by Aditya S — 15 Jul 2011
First of all go watch this movie. Its one of the best releases in the last few years. Light hearted, full of comedy (some slapstick kind as well), the movie has been made for entertainment. Not for the oscars though but will sell very well in India.
The movie starts with some overacting from Hrithik (expected) and slowly weaves into a nice storyline (nothing new though) and then enters Katrina who plays a very nice role ever played in all of her movies.
The actor who shines in this movie is Farhan Akhtar and he clearly overshadows Hrithik and Abhay Deol. Its a fun masala film repackaged although it has some odd disconnects towards the end and the movie kind of overstreches itself.
Should have been maximum of 2 hours but then we want a lot of value for our money and 2.5 hours will go well with audiences. Spain is beautifully captured in this movie although it is more beautiful than any camera can ever capture it.
The disconnects are Katrina asking Hrithik whether he would marry for money and the audience expects something to develop on that front, although it flattens away. Second disconnect is that Abhay wants to break off his marriage with his fiancee and suddently in the end you see a weird storyline.
Finally the biggest disconnect I see in such movies is how they potray money chasing stock broker as a kind of negative stereotype, although it doesnt have to be that way. I am yet to watch a Hindi movie where they can potray such casts as dreamer chasers rather than simply money chasers.
Overall I give 10 out of 10 for this movie. Go watch it, you wont be disappointed. Its a good neat 2.5 hours of fun ride.
