Kevin Smith comes off like a 14 year old Judd Apatow, lacking any of the polish, focus or subtlety that make Apatow's films great. It's a mess: more awkward than funny, not as edgy as it wants to be and not as charming as it tries to be, topped with some poor sketch improv and several sub-par performances.
