Review of Z for Zachariah (2015) by Andrew M — 29 Aug 2015
An interesting film with a tiny cast (only 3 people), which is visually gorgeous and well acted (although I'm not sure about the accents), but even a couple of hours later I still don't know what the story is actually about. Despite the number of times faith is brought up, it doesn't really seem to play into the story. I can't even say it's about how someone of faith can get along with someone without, and it's not quite an analogy for the Garden of Eden either, since they're all working the soil for food. Is one of the men supposed to be analogous to the snake? That doesn't really seem to fit, either, and while I generally like ambiguity I don't quite get the purpose of leaving it ambiguous here.
Mild recommendation if you can track this down and watch it cheap, as it is visually well put together.
