Review of Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie (2004) by Zack S — 28 Aug 2010
While just one big commercial for the popular childrens trading card game, this movie does offer some things that the anime itself does not. A new animation is used for this film compared to the show itself. New cards are introduced and, in my opnion, quite overrated. The cards in the show are now fitted with their effects written.
The movie is basically the same as the main plot point of the show, Kaiba wants a way to defeat Yugi and become the true king of games. Honestly, the only difference is that he takes on pegasus again and we see that without his Thousand Year eye, he is not that great of a duelist. Yugi has to face off against Kaiba and then Anubis who was once an evil egyptian sorcerer who tried to take the throne or something. He has the Pyramid of Light and uses it to try to, of course, destroy the world. Yugi, of course, wins and saves the world...with Kaiba's help for once (unlike in the battle city duels but that is for another time).
So as I said, it is basically the commerical kids will sit through.
