Review of You've Got Mail (1998) by Joshua C — 30 Oct 2014
Being that it features the same stars and director, You've Got Mail will inevitably be compared to Sleepless in Seattle. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Where "Seattle" was a much more romantic film, "Mail" was a wittier film.
A lot of this has to do with a)the seemingly natural chemistry between Ryan and Hanks and b)the superb supporting cast. Surrounding these charming leads with players like Dave Chapeplle, Parker Posey, and Greg Kinnear made everything in this film flow perfectly.
Even Michael Badalucco's blink-and-you'll-miss-it turn as an elevator operator "who knew exactly what he wanted" was instantly endearing and encouraged you to root for not just Hanks and Ryan, but most everyone else onscreen.
