Review of You're Next (2013) by Aaron O — 28 Jun 2014
You're Next is the best home invasion movie to come out in ages, it constantly subverts expectation, even if it does follow some of the genres conventions. Though I was only expecting the film to be just entertaining, I was very pleasantly surprised with how thrilling, tense and even funny the film gets throughout.
Sharni Vinson gives an energetic performance as the films hero, but some of the other actors don't do as good of a job. There is some genuine surprises in the plot throughout, it does get a bit silly at times, but the film is never really taking itself seriously, so at least it's nice to get context for the situation.
The film overall is incredibly entertaining because of how much chaos is going, and every action sequence is really intense because all the characters are expendable and could die at any given time. If you're a fan of home invasion horror movies this is a must see.
